Accounts and pairing
Getting connected
How do I add or replace an account?
Open the account you want to update and choose Replace, then select whether you want to scan a pairing code or enter a credential manually. Scanning is useful when Usage Companion on your Mac has prepared a temporary pairing code. Replacing a credential keeps the account name and layout intact.
Why does Usage Companion show more than one QR code?
Some pairing payloads are too large for one QR code that a phone can scan reliably. Usage Companion breaks them into numbered, temporary codes. Scan every part; the phone accepts them in any order and assembles the pairing only when all parts are present.
What should I do if a QR code expires?
Return to Usage Companion and create a new pairing session. Pairing codes expire intentionally. Expiration keeps a code that was left on screen from remaining useful later.
Why is my Claude Code account paired through the Mac companion?
Claude Code uses desktop-held credentials for its usage access. Usage Companion verifies the account and transfers a separate, temporary pairing payload to your phone. It does not give the phone access to your Mac Keychain.
Can I use more than one account from the same provider?
Yes. Give each account a clear name when you add it. Usage Overview keeps their usage data and credentials separate so personal, work, and client accounts do not overwrite one another.
Subscription and trial
Purchases stay with Apple
What does the subscription unlock?
An active subscription unlocks live usage refreshes, Home and Lock Screen widgets, and reset alerts. Your connected accounts stay on your device if a trial or subscription ends; they appear paused until access is restored.
How does the seven-day free trial work?
Eligible new subscribers can start a seven-day free trial. After the trial, the subscription renews monthly unless you cancel it through your Apple Account. Eligibility and billing are determined by Apple.
I already subscribed. How do I restore access?
Open the subscription screen in Usage Overview and select Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase. If Apple confirms an active entitlement, the app unlocks immediately.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Open Usage Overview, select Manage Subscription, and follow Apple’s subscription controls. You can also manage subscriptions from your Apple Account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Widgets and refresh
Keeping the view current
Why has my widget not updated yet?
iOS decides when widgets receive their background refresh time. Usage Overview requests updates, but it cannot force a widget to refresh on a fixed minute-by-minute schedule. Open the app and refresh the account if you need the latest number immediately.
Why does an account show an authentication or refresh error?
Credentials can expire, be revoked, or lose the permission required to read usage. Use Replace to scan a new pairing code or enter a new credential. For an API key, create a dedicated key where the provider permits it rather than reusing a key that protects production work.
Why are the limits different from the provider’s site?
Usage Overview presents the data returned by the provider and refreshes it on demand or on the selected schedule. Providers can update their usage calculations, windows, or reporting cadence. Refresh first; if the difference remains, contact support with the provider name and a redacted screenshot of the displayed usage figures only.
